Carrara Park jazz picnic

Kick back and relax to jazz all afternoon in the peaceful sunshine at Carrara park.

Newtown Festival presents this years’ Jazz Picnic at Carrara Park.

Bring a picnic, your blankets, kids, grandparents, friends and come and listen to a variety of jazz styles.

This is a FREE event.

The park can be entered either from Daniell or Regent Street in Newtown.

We have three wonderful bands joining us on that day.

1 – 2 pm

SERENDIPITY with Jhan Lindsay

 
The Seredipity Duo are Mike Duffy, double bass; and Jeremy Desmond, guitar. Expect jazz-influenced playing and arrangements of an eclectic array of tunes from jazz standard to Jamaican Nyabinghi. Their playing is rooted in a marriage of jazz harmony and deep, worldly groove. 
Serendipity will be playing 2 sets, one as a Duo and one as a Trio with Jhan Lindsay.

THE WOODS

‘The Woods’ features Blair Latham on saxophone & bass clarinet, Joe Callwood on guitar, Tom Callwood on basses, and Rick Cranson on drums.(Tom, Rick and Joe used to play together in ‘Little Bushman’).

THE JAC

Formed in 2011 in Wellington NZ, The Jac is an 8-piece ensemble playing original modern jazz. The band, led by alto saxophonist and composer Jake Baxendale, features some of New Zealand’s finest musical talent from the jazz, classical and metal scenes, and uses these broad musical influences to forge a unique, cohesive sound.
