i.e crazy

“I’m not going to be ignored, Dan.”
~ Alex Forrest (Glenn Close), Fatal Attraction ~

i.e. crazy (aka Maggie Magee) is here to champion, console, interrogate and celebrate women on the edge.

The inebriated voicemail left by a so-called “psycho ex”; a pregnant woman murdered by her lover and buried under Wellington’s Victoria Tunnel; a hypothermic Rose DeWitt-Bukater aboard the fictional Titanic; the inspired God-given messages of medieval mystic Hildegard von Bingen.

Maggie’s new recorded project Women in Love challenges the folk-song as she knows it; exploring multiplicities of space and sound as well as history and voice. No longer satisfied with the restrictive phallic armour of the guitar, Maggie has castrated herself from her long-fondled friend. Casting the net wider; Maggie’s been gathering shards of sonic debris and forgotten pop-culture detritus from dusty corners and behind long-closed curtains.

"New Zealand’s i.e. crazy (aka Maggie Magee) is one of the most fascinating and engrossing new artists I have come across this year. Wonderfully adept at combining abstract noise and direct melody, the industrial/post-punk work of i.e. crazy bridges that wonderful middle ground where intellectual stimulation and sonic immediacy meet.
