Israel Starr is a recipient of the ‘Best Roots Artist’ award at the Vodafone NZ Music Awards and also the 2x winner of Best Reggae Album at the Maori Music Awards. Having been raised surrounded by all things Reggae and base culture; it’s only natural that Israel Starr has become an important part of Aotearoa’s ever-growing Reggae, Dub, Dancehall and Hip-Hop scenes. Israel is involved in all facets of the music industry from producing, singing & song writing, promoting, touring and managing artists.

Son of Aotearoa Legend ‘The Mighty Asterix’ (Salmonella Dub), Israel has learnt from the best and is now notorious for his energetic yet mature live shows.‘Israel’ (his given middle name)… and ‘Starr’ (short for Rasta) has now stamped his mark on NZ music after playing semiprofessional Rugby League in Australia in his early twenties. Israel credits his musical talents to his upbringing in the ‘Twelve Tribes of Israel’ Rasta community. Growing up in the Twelve Tribes meant that he had the opportunity to learn from the best musical legends, including Che Fu, Herbs, Chong Nee and his father. Growing up around authentic sound system culture, Israel has a deep knowledge of music and he has now become the first choice for some of the top DJs to join forces and form killer DJ/MC teams to preform live and create studio production duos. Israel has been producing some of NZs most stand out tracks including the number one singles ‘Love Her Mind’ ft Tomorrow People, ‘Summer Anthem,’ ‘Were In This Love’ ‘Long White Cloud’ and also his award winning albums ‘Through the Ages and Forever’ and ‘Dancehall’ which both won awards for best albums.

Israel also ‘ghost writes’ and his talents are regularly called upon by some of your favorite Reggae and Hip Hop bands.
