Meet The Artists!

SARITAH

How did you end up in New Zealand?

Honestly it was a calling. Intuition. I started feeling/hearing Aotearoa calling me back in September/October last year. Then I went to Standing Rock in November and connected with some amazing Māori friends who happened to be there at the same time. And it just continued, I kept having synchronicities happen that let me know I needed to come here. Since being here I’ve felt so welcomed and everything has been flowing amazingly. I’m here to share music, learn and connect with the land and people.

How do you describe the New Zealand Music Scene?

When I first came here back in 2005 I was introduced to so many insanely good bands/artists it blew my mind.  Soulful artists, roots music. The land here is super powerful and yet at the same time gentle; spiritual, and this is totally reflected and translated into sound by lot of the amazing music that comes out of here. Trinity Roots are one of my all-time favourite bands in the history of the universe haha.
What are you most looking forward to about playing at Newtown Festival?
Music in the street, music outdoors really is one of my favourite things in life. So I’m looking forward to being a part of people gathering together to enjoy the good things in life – friends, music, creativity, and also getting to know Wellington a little better. Thank you for having me! Every day is a blessing.
You can catch Saritah at the Filipino & Latino Stage at 2:20 AND you can also see her at MOON the night before the festival (that’s March 4, doors open at 9pm)! You can also view Saritah’s artist profile here.

A few years ago my Son was really into sticks and had found an excellent and important one on our walk to the festival and he carried it around with him all afternoon.
