Good Laika

Good Laika

07 Mar 2010 2:00pm

Fabulously crafted songs, understated but majestically performed, surely one of Wellington's best and most significant bands.

The music is highly original but still accessable & enjoyable.

Robin Hinkley's melodic & seductive vocals carry haunting lyrics that captivate.

For more information and audio go to http://www.myspace.com/goodlaika

"Good Laika may sound like New Zealand's answer to Wilco, but underneath lies a wholly original heart... By turns melancholy and upbeat, their second album, Followed By A Trail Of Sparks, is an astounding slice of guitar pop and a strong contender for release of the year".
Grove Guide review July 2009

Tyson Smith

07 Mar 2010 2:50pm

Tyson Smith is a guitarist, composer and singer.

After graduating from the Christchurch Jazz School and having performed extensively throughout New Zealand in a variety of ensembles ranging from pseudo-flamenco duos to funk bands, Tyson decided it was time to invest in a cheap tuxedo and fly to New Orleans.

Over the next couple of years he could be found playing in show bands cruising the Caribbean and Mediterranean or soaking up influences in Cuba, Central America and New York City.

Tyson's music reflects these and various other influences and is hard to pigeon hole as any one particular style. With blues, funk, jazz, rock and world music elements, his compositions act as vehicles for the interaction and improvisation of the musicians he gathers but also exist as songs that can be performed solo with an acoustic guitar.

He has recently finished his debut album "There's Nothing We Can't Pretend".
