The Tary-Bary trio consists of Alexey Medvedev ( vocal, balalaika, guitar), Vladimir Bell ( vocal, accordion, foot drum), Aleksei Popkov (vocal, gusli (harp), bass).
The Tary-Bary (from Russian Chit-Chat) started as a Russian folk duo by Alexey Medvedev (guitar, balalaika) and Vladimir Bell (accordion, foot-drum) in 2014. The idea is to revive the Russian folk style country fairs entertainers genre of the 18-19-20 centuries. Since 2017 some songs (3-4), are played together with Aleksei Popkov (gusli, the ancient Russian instrument, the kind of harp)
We take the original tunes and songs of the 18-19-20 century and perform them in a funny and entertaining style. We also create musical jokes where we mix the well-known international hits with the Russian folk songs. So the song would start as some Russian folk tune but be finished as the well-known American country song, or rock’n’roll and vice-versa. (” The Blue Moon of Kentucky”, “Back in the USSR”). We play and sing well known old Russian songs like “Kalinka”, “Katyusha”, Moscow Nights”, “The Volga Boatmen’s Song” etc.
