A couple of Summers back three neighbours in Kenwyn Terrace started getting together to play ukulele. Over time more friends and more instruments joined and their sessions became a regular fixture upstairs at the Office Bar on Riddiford on Thursday nights. One morning they woke up and realised they had become The Thirsty Night Music Club.
The Thirsties mix elements of old school country, bluegrass, gospel and good old fashioned random. They played before rapturous crowds of dozens at the Geraldine Ukulele Festival 2018.
They will perform songs by their resident songwriter Don Mackay. Don is a Newtown superannuatant. He has recently returned to songwriting and performing after a 30 year sabbatical during which time he tried without a lot of success to pass himself off as a responsible grown up.
