Toby Sussex is a solo singer-songwriter and producer who plays anything with strings! Crafting indie-folk music with detailed production, he writes personal, honest songs that capture raw emotion and react to the world. Toby performs around the Wellington and Nelson music scenes, armed with an acoustic guitar and loop pedal. His style varies from stripped back finger-style ballads to fast-paced strumming and textured, layered looping.
In 2021, he self-recorded, produced and released his first two singles, ‘Metronome’ and ‘Deja Vu,’ to streaming platforms. Playing at summer festivals in Nelson, opening for The Heart of Katherine in July, and headlining A Little Something Something with Ella Doty at Cuba Dive Bar in September have been recent highlights.
Since arriving in Pōneke to study commercial music at Massey university, Toby has been in constant collaboration, with exciting new projects on the way in the near future – solo and with friends!
