Newtown Festival marks our fifth birthday and International Women’s Day – so as a female-led gallery we’ll be rolling out the pink carpet to celebrate! This year we’re proud to present ‘The Foragers’, a solo exhibition by Emma Hercus. Drawing on themes of sustenance and community, Emma reflects on a way of living shaped by the land – foraging from bush and coastline, fields and roadside corners – coming together to share what is grown, caught and gathered. These folkloric paintings are wide-eyed; alive with rich colour and animated landscapes where people, flora and fauna coexist.

Throughout the day, Marcos Alonso, Manisah and a lineup of DJs will be playing tunes. Amy Grace Laura will be writing poems for visitors, and fragrance maker Nathan Taare will be launching the scent of Newtown just outside the gallery. A celebration of art, place and neighbourhood – smell you there!
