Adored among the venues and boardrooms of Pōneke, 5-piece jazz-house disco band Groove Council means business. On their agenda is an uninterrupted dose of live, jazz-house dance music that’s sure to keep feet moving and hearts smiling all night long. When in session, the council fuses DJ sensibilities with live band flare and jazz-informed improvisation, formulating non-stop, flowing live sets of infectiously groovy dance music. Their one and only policy: always keep the people moving.
After a landslide victory in last year’s Groove Election, the councillors – Chairperson Will Hanlon, Secretary Blair Gowan, Treasurer Dillon Bouchier (Te Rarawa, Ngāti Manuhiri, Te Aupōuri), Groove Officer Jojo Alexander and Vice-Sampler Max Sheehan – have returned to office with a mandate to serve Groovemocracy. When the council is in session, everybody gets to groove.
