label, 21-year old Makayla is defining what it means to be a new generation Māori
popstar. Makayla’s debut single under Massive Records, ‘Nature of Love’, finds the
artist blending contemporary pop melodies reminiscent of Ariana Grande with
soaring soul and R&B, infectious chanted background vocals, and bubbly, grooving
reggae tinged production, crafting a vibrant yet tender track that speaks to the
essence of what it means to know a wahine’s heart. Created in collaboration with
some of Aotearoa’s most iconic musicians, ‘Nature of Love’ was co-written by
Makayla alongside Matiu Walters (SIX60) & Nico & Ninz, and produced by Matthew
Sadgrove (Sons of Zion).
