Hailing from the Lost Continent of Te Riu-a-Māui, The Cthulus are a high energy, four-piece surf guitar band that take their audience on an epic journey of oceanic mystery, adventure and intrigue.
Inspired by the frantic, reverb-soaked guitar licks, driving bass lines and relentless drums of 1960s surf music pioneers such as Dick Dale & The Deltones, The Original Surfaris and The Fender IV, The Cthulus infuse their music with a dark and ominous twist, channeling the mythical sea creature from which they draw their name.
Since their inception in 2018, The Cthulus have been making waves across the Tāmaki Makaurau underground music scene, earning a devoted following and building a reputation as one of Aotearoa’s finest surf guitar bands.
The Cthulus’ highly anticipated debut 7″ single “What Lurks Beneath” b/w “Sunken City” is set to be released on 1:12 Records on February 9th.
